GOOD NEIGHBOURS NETWORK

What the Good Neighbours Network is

The Good Neighbours Network is a unique and valuable asset to local communities, providing practical neighbourly help in a caring, people focused and safe way.

Comprising of over 120 groups, of which Compassionately Portsmouth are one, each are independent and able to respond directly to the needs of their own community. All groups are supported by the Network Hub, who provide safeguarding, insurance, training and a GNN (Good Neighbours Network) tool kit, of policies, procedures and hands on advice for the recruitment and management of a healthy volunteer army.

Funded by the Adult Services Department of Hampshire County Council and the Clinical Commissioning Groups in Hampshire, the Network has been so successful it has spread across Hampshire offering dependable, trustworthy help.

How it Ties In With Us

Compassionately Portsmouth offers Good Neighbours Network help in our city. Our fantastic volunteers are doing some incredible work and are making a real difference in our community. Volunteering is totally flexible to suit your availability. We're always looking for volunteers, so if you could spare your time for some every day acts of kindness we'd love to hear from you.

Driving

  • Hospital transport
  • GP transport
  • Dentist transport
  • Other medical transport

Providing transport to get to and from medical appointments can make a huge difference. Can you help?

Shopping

Doing a weekly shop is an essential part of many routines that we can take for granted, but many people are unable to get to the shops or are worried about going to the shops alone.

Could you help someone by doing their shopping or running errands?

Dog Walking

Dogs are such great companions and can actually improve mental health by reducing stress, depression, anxiety, and loneliness.

We provide a temporary dog walking service for those owners who cannot get out to walk their pets.

Could you spare some time to walk a dog in your local area?

Befriending

For those that live on their own due to mobility issues. Social and emotional isolation can be particularly difficult. Visiting someone in their home perhaps for a cup of tea and a chat, or helping out with a simple job could really make someone's day.

We offer the following:

  • Visit and chat
  • Simple tasks (e.g. changing a light bulb)
  • Call and natter
  • Daily check in calls

Could you make a difference by visiting / chatting with someone in your community?
